This morning (Tuesday 9th May 2023) at 5.30am, some members of our community gathered for the unveiling of our waharoa followed by a mihi whakatu at 8.45am for the whole school. Koka Hiraina lead the mihi whakatu and talked to our tamariki. Our local carver Jeff Bryan, who carved this beautiful whakairo, also attended. This was a very special occasion in our school's history.
RAKAUTATAHI MARAE VISIT
TE MIRO PARTNERSHIP This week our students visited Te Miro to plant out trees, help with water samples and learn about pest control.
DUFFY THEATRE
This week we had a visit from Duffy Theatre who gave our tamariki a very enjoyable and appropriate performance about Covid and the impact on families. At the end of the performance all our students were presented with two books each to take home.
School Cross Country - 8th June 2022
This year's cross country was held for the first time at Matthew's Park and around some local farm land. The weather was amazing for this time of year and it was great to see so many parents and other family members come along to support our students.
NORWAY DAY May 2022 This year Norway Day was combined with the Viking Festival in Norsewood. After getting into their Scandi uniforms and a quick practice at school, the students walked across the road to Johanna's World. Here they sang the Norway national anthem while the flag was raised. The children then lead the parade down to the historic oak tree and then onto Matthews Park to the Viking Festival. The children performed a couple of Norwegian folk dances to an appreciative audience followed by a community dance where they got others to join in..
LIFE EDUCATION TRUST
Harold from Life Education has been in the school this week. One of the highlights from this was a visit from "Big Harold" on Tuesday. The absolute joy on the kids' faces as they Jump Jammed with Harold was wonderful to see. Our Life Education facilitator Laura enriched our students understanding of big emotions and gave students strategies to deal with them.

2021 Norsewood Flower Show
This year the Norsewood Flower Show was held in our Variable Teaching Space. All our students made and entered a mosaic saucer and an aqua jar for the competition run by our local community.

Settler's Day September 2021
Settler's Day is celebrated every year at Norsewood & Districts School. This year's activities included a visit to the early settlers' graves, making pikelets, scones and soup for lunch, playing old fashioned games, learning handwriting and about some of our early local history. The children are encouraged to dress up for the day in olden days clothes.
