BEHAVIOURAL MANAGEMENT POLICY

Rationale:

It is a task of our school to modify student behaviour, both learning and social if required. We see this as a partnership whereby the responsibility is shared between the school and home.

We also believe that disruptive behaviour should not be allowed to interfere with children’s learning. Effective discipline within the school will encourage the children to develop their self-esteem, will show them the advantage of co-operation and interaction with others and will help them to achieve good work and behavioural patterns that will benefit them in the future.

Purposes:

1.  To establish a plan for the effective management of inappropriately behaved children within the school environment.

2.  To promote effective modification of disruptive student behaviour and irresponsible behaviour through staff intervention and parent/caregiver consultation.

3.  To ensure that staff support one another and have the support of parents in implementing modification practices.

4.  To improve students respect towards others.

5.  To improve student attitudes towards acceptable learning and social behaviour.

6.  To ensure the safety and well being of all people within the school environment.

 Guidelines:

  1. Teachers must be fair and consistent in applying the Behaviour Modification Plan

  1. Pupils need to be familiar with the School Expectations and the consequences of breaking them.

  1. Classroom teachers and pupils need to be aware of the “School Code of Conduct” applicable to all.

  1. Any disruptive and irresponsible behaviour will be assessed by the class teacher or playground duty teacher after careful questioning.

  1. Student showing disruptive, inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour will be placed on an appropriate stage of the Behaviour Modification Plan.

  1. Parents/caregivers are to be fully informed of the Schools Behaviour Modification Plan & Behavioural Management Policy.

Conclusion:

Through early intervention and parental co-operation, disruptive and irresponsible behaviour should be minimised.
