Goal 4:  “Learning with the Community” – Specifics and Action 2009

 

  • Greater Community Engagement
  • Encourage parents to attend Merit Assemblies, supervise and accompany students on field trips and other EOTC activities. Encourage participation in “Mini Surveys” related to curriculum, management and governance.
  • Further Enhancement of Norsewood and District Culture and Heritage
  • Engage all children in a “Culture and Heritage” unit study in their Social Studies      programme that has a Norse/Scandinavian focus.
  •  Encourage community involvement in cultural activities.
  • Incorporate Scandi Dancing into fitness programme.
  •  Enrich Scandi dancing and opportunities to perform.
  • Targeted Reporting
  • Report regularly to B.O.T. and Community on Student Achievement
  • Analysis of Variance (inclusion in Charter)
  • Revise Curriculum Review and Student Achievement Cycle 1
  • Entry and exit data for special needs
  • Annual Events – Sports, Cultural, Fundraising

Continually encourage the involvement of parents in Annual Events and School Support Group activities by increased promotion, motivation, communication. Engage parents in the development of a sound School Culture (Positive Norms) through involvement in activities such as, House Festivals, Pet Day, Quiz Night, Talent Show, Speeches, Sport and special assemblies

  • Increased Engagement of the Community in the Promotion of Curriculum Education

Staff to promote and run “Curriculum Education” evenings twice a year.

Term 2 Maths , Term 3 English Component.

  • Focus on Education Outside the Classroom

Encourage parent involvement in assisting with the organisation of some EOTC events,where expertise is known,

  • Communication

 Emphasise the need to follow communication procedures so that everyone’s opinions, security and wellbeing is valued. Especially concerning Behaviour Management, Policies and Procedures.

  • Consultation

Consult with the School Community by way of “ Mini Surveys “ (What is going well,? improvements we can make, future direction, effective teaching, behaviour, curriculum developments  & communications.

Consult on any procedural issues that may affect the parent community.

Consult with the Maori community about Maori student achievement and Taha

Maori expectations.
