Minor Behaviours – Explanation
and Procedure
- All “minor behaviours”
acknowledged by staff will be written in the front section of the “Behaviour
Management Book”, noting date and brief description.
- Students will be required to sit
in a designated “Hot Spot” area either near the bell tower or on the verandah, depending
on weather during morning tea time for one day to think about their behaviour
and how to modify/change it.
- Repeated minor offences may give
some cause for a teacher to issue a “Double Hot Spot” which will include “Time
Out” at morning tea and lunch time for the student to think further about
modifying their behaviour.
- Ongoing/repeated “minor
offences” with the student showing little or no attempt to modify his/her
behaviour may be transferred to a 1st Major. It is the
responsibility of the issuing teacher to determine this placement.
Major
Behaviours – Explanation and Procedure
- All “Major Behaviours’
acknowledged by staff will be written in the back section of the “Behaviour Management Book”,
noting time and date of incident, description of incident and the date parent notification
was sent.
- The teacher issuing the major
behaviour offence will withdraw the student from play ,notify another staff
member and place them on the “Hot Spot” immediately. The incident will be
written up by the teacher and the student issued with a “Parent Advice Letter” to complete their parts; what they
did wrong and what they are going to do
about making a change in their behaviour. This letter will then be sent home by the appropriate issuing staff
member via mail, requiring a parent/caregiver signature before returning it to
school.
- 1st Major Offence: Consequences include an automatic “Hot
Spot” followed by a “Double Hot Spot” on the next 2 days of attendance and is most likely to include
environmental/citizenship chores. At this stage the staff member is responsible
for issuing the Advice Letter
- 2nd Major Offence: Consequences include an automatic “ Hot
Spot’” followed by a “Double Hot Spot”
on the next three days
of attendance, and is most likely to include environmental/citizenship chores. At
this stage the Deputy Principal is made aware of the offence and is responsible
for issuing the Advice Letter.
- 3rd Major Offence:
Consequences include an automatic “Hot Spot” followed by a “Double Hot
Spot” on the next four days
of attendance, and is most likely to include environmental/citizenship chores.
At this stage the Principal is made aware of the offence and is responsible for
issuing the Advice Letter and a Request
for Parent Interview Letter. At the ensuing meeting the student concerned
will be placed on a written contract seeking a change in behaviour, effective
immediately. The contract may take the form of an” Observation Monitored Report” for a period of four days as well as
the “Double Hot Spot” period.
At this stage the B.O.T. will be notified in writing.
Stand
Downs/Suspensions:
If no apparent change in behaviour or a
repeat offence occurs after the 3rd Major stage then the student is
placed on a Stand down period
determined by the Principal.
Parents/Caregivers will be sent a Stand
Down Letter and the appropriate MOE documentation outlining the process.
The Principal is responsible for issuing the letter and notifying the
parent/caregiver by phone. At this stage the Ministry are notified in writing
and a copy of the MOE confirmation letter is recorded in BOT correspondence and
may form a part of Principal’s Report.
