Term 3 Calendar
End of Term Thanks On behalf of all staff I thank you for the
parent support throughout the term. Together we can make a difference and
improve outcomes for children.
Students have enjoyed their term at school and
now deserve a well earned break. I hope
you enjoy it with them.
School starts again at 8.50am on Monday 19th
July.
Attendance at School It is extremely important
that children attend school as often as possible so that they can progress with
their learning comfortably without the pressures of having to catch up when
they return.
Illnesses are unavoidable but there are still
a considerable number of either unexplained or unsatisfactory explanations for
absences The Board of Trustees discussed
the concern after a survey taken during Term 1 this year. The Dannevirke
Truancy Officer will monitor the situation next term and investigate any
irregular or unsatisfactory reasons for non attendance as necessary.
School Accounts Thank you to all those
who have cleared their accounts this term.
There are still a few outstanding and it would be appreciated if these
could be cleared in Week 1 of next term before Term 3 accounts are sent out.
Yummy Fruit Stickers
Please find attached Yummy sticker collection
sheets for your children to start saving the stickers from their apples
on. By collecting as many stickers as we
can as a school, we earn new sports gear for our children to enjoy. All stickers need to be handed in by the end
of Term 3 so get collecting now!! Ask
family and friends to save theirs too – the more the merrier as they say.
Junior Netball:
Important Meeting
At the Dannevirke Netball Centre Meeting this
coming Monday (5 July), Nigel Jackson is coming to speak about the success of
the local junior competition and their transition away from playing for a
school, so that the competition is more evenly balanced. At present, the Dannevirke Netball Centre are
considering a possible change to the junior netball competition so that a more
even competition takes place. If you have
children involved in junior netball, this may affect you and your children over
the coming years. Therefore, we would
love to see as many coaches, managers and parents to come along to this
meeting. The meeting is to be held at
the netball pavilion (at the courts) on Monday 5 July at 7.00 pm. Hope to see you there.
Red Socks
Day/Soccer Tournament Thank you to the students who contributed to
the Red Sock Day proceedings, delivering quotes or messages related to
leadership. The children enjoyed receiving their pair of red socks and forming
a soccer ball pattern as a symbol to commemorate the day.
The children really enjoyed the soccer
tournament that followed. Many learned
how to play soccer, some very competitively and showing improved skills by the
end of the afternoon. Children also enjoyed the making of flags , dressing up ,
and the chance to show team spirit; with a number of chants heard often
throughout the afternoon. Well done to house leaders for the part they played
in drumming up enthusiasm among their house members.
Thanks to the parents who braved the cold
conditions to come along and support the children. The children do enjoy your
presence.
Team certificates for the first three placings
were presented at Thursday’s Room 5 Merit assembly.
Merit Assembly
Thank you to Room 5 for their assembly programme
yesterday. It was good to see new some folk dancing and Maori dance
performance. Thanks to Warren, Evelyn, their son and Henare for coming along
and participating in the assembly. I know that they are proud to be associated
with the Room 5 students and our school. During the proceedings Henare
presented a whale bone as a gift to our school that was received by Detroit
Bray on behalf of the School. The children look forward to the continuation of
the Te Moana programme next term.
School Uniform
Earlier this week, several students displayed the
correct uniform dress at school assembly.
The uniform requirements were pointed out to
all students and a message to have things right by the start of next term. A
letter may be attached to this newsletter reminding you as a parent or
caregiver of the requirements or items causing concern.
Term Calendar
Please ensure that you store the term 3 calendar in
an accessible place for easy reference throughout the term.

SPORTS REPORTS
Rugby
On Saturday Norsewood/Huia Range had a game of rugby
against South. We drew 15 all. The backline needs to improve on coming up
in a line. The forwards need to get
clear ball for the backs.
Jack Ellingham
Last Saturday we had a game of rugby against South. We
won 31-10 and it was a good game. We
need to improve on staying behind the kicker because we got busted for that but
apart from that it was good day.
Cameron Hutching
On Saturday Dannevirke Town played Dannevirke Country
in a game of rugby. It was a wet and
cold miserable day so some of our team didn’t show up. Our game was played 15 minutes earlier than
its normal time We had to win this game
so we could win the Dannevirke cup. We
scored the early try. The other team
drove hard into our defence and one of their team members ran straight past the
try line and over the dead ball line and scored but it wasn’t a try. The other funny mistake their team made was
another try but this time they were five metres short. In the end we won 27-21. It was a really funny game and we need to
improve on tackling.

Dancing – Jazz
On Sunday I had my grade three Jazz exam at Melissa Martin Academy of
Dance. We had to be there at
9.00am. We got our hair done after we
got dressed and at 9.35am we went in.
Our examiners name was Mrs Rose.
We did our bar work, then centre work and floor work and we also did our
combinations. We did our dance in
two’s. All our group went in and I was
number three. I didn’t get as nervous
as I did for my last exams. I smiled as
hard as I could the whole time through.
I made a small mistake in my flatback exercise but I don’t think the
examiner saw it. It was a great day and
all my group enjoyed it.
Ashleigh Clark
On Saturday at 1.40pm I had my American Jazz exams in Town. I was number
1. My 6 bar exercises went well. I only made one tiny mistake in my lunge and
relaxation. I don’t think I was as confident as I was last last year. I got
distinction which is the highest mark in New Zealand.
Over all It was an excellent day.
Portia Wright.
Netball
On Sunday I had to wake up at half past 5 in the morning, because I have
been selected in the Dannevirke Netball Reps.
My team
played four games. The first game we played was against Taranaki Development,
we lost lost 6-9. The next game was against C.H.B. We won 16-7. The third game
we faced Kapiti and we lost 10-11, it was a close game.
Our final game we played Lower Hutt
Development and we won 15-8. It was a cold and wet day but an enjoyable day,
especially because I was player of the Tournament, and got a $10.00 voucher
from Tinker bell Dairy.
I have
my own jersey with Montgomery written on it. It was a good day, although my
legs were very sore.
