Young Mastermind Result
Congratulations to our Mastermind Team of
Settlers’ Day – Thursday 23rd.
During the last two weeks a school-wide Social
Science Unit has been in operation. An inquiry approach to learning was used with
many activities designed to help seek knowledge about the Scandi wheel’s
design, purpose, and usefulness to settlers.
The study will conclude on Thursday with
Settlers Day activities such as;
Dressing Up in settlers - type
clothing; cap, braces, boots, and jacket for boys, dress, stockings, shawl,
bonnet/hat, apron, blouse, pinafore, etc for girls. Dressing up is
expected to be all day.
Old Fashioned/Olden Day Games - hoops, marbles, skittles,
egg and spoon, tug-o- war, knucklebones, hopscotch, huntsman, sack race, etc. Games
are expected to run from 11am – 12.30 pm
Picnic Lunch – eg. pikelets, scones, fruit, damper,
cheese, vegetables, homemade lemon drink etc. – no packaged snack foods. Research
suitable types of food if necessary. A blanket or small ground cover would be
useful. Several families will be joined together and a couple of individuals to
form picnic groups of about 6 children. eg
A family of three needs to bring along enough food and drink to feed their own family. They will
share with another family or several individuals. The picnic lunch is
expected to run from 12.30pm – 12.50pm
Scandi Wagon Rides. – This will take
place providing the field is in a suitable state and we can find someone to
draw the wagon along with a small tractor or similar vehicle. If you are able
to assist with this could you please contact the school office as soon as
possible preferably Monday. This activity is expected to run from 1.25pm
onwards.
Parents are welcome to come along throughout the day
from
Daffodil Day
$178 was donated on Daffodil Day. Thank you
for your kind donation.
Loud Shirt Day
Children dressed up well today with many
imaginative outfits depicting the meaning of loud. Well done and thank you for
the donation to a very worthy cause – Supporting deaf children throughout
School Accounts
A big thank you to those of you who have
cleared your accounts. We have only a
few left to come in and it would make our office manager’s life much easier if
they were to be cleared by the end of term please.
Fun Run/House Festival Commonwealth Games
A medal ceremony was held on Monday morning
and children enjoyed receiving them. The winning House overall was Odin. Well
done to all participants. Thanks to School Support for providing funds to cover
the pool hireage and majority of the transport costs.
Unwanted Equipment at School
This is a reminder that such items as cell
phones, I-Pods, PSP’s, Nintendos are not welcome or required at school for any
reason so please don’t allow them to turn up at school with children. Thank you
for your co- operation in this matter.
Uniform Standard.
For the most part this term the uniform has
been worn well with pride. Unfortunately it has been a struggle with some to
comply. This should not have to be a problem for school to sort out as the
uniform requirements are clearly stated in the Information Booklet. Please help
to rectify the situation by reading the requirements and abiding by them. The
school office can assist with ordering new items or the purchasing of second
hand items.
I look forward to 100% compliance at the start
of next term.

SPORTS REPORTS
Canoe Polo
On Friday the Norsewood
Trolls had a game of Canoe Polo. We lost
1 – 6. Shane scored the first goal of
the season. I think we need to spread
out more to get the ball to the other end.
Kieran Lansdown
On Friday the canoe polo
Vikings played a game against Ruahine.
We lost 2 – 3. It was close and
they scored in the final second to win the game. I really enjoyed it but it is a pity we
didn’t win.
Brad McNaughten
Show Jumping
On Friday we travelled up
to Flaxmere for the Pukahu Show. I only
take one pony, Salute. On Saturday and
Sunday I had two show jumping classes the 80cm and the 90cm. I got three places, a 2nd in a
80cm on Sunday, a 3rd in a 90cm on Saturday and a 5th in
another 90cm on Sunday. It was a really
good weekend and I was really pleased with Salute.
Georgia Massie
Hockey
On Friday night we were going
to play Huntly but unfortunately they forfeited. We are going to play them this week
though. It will be our second to last
game for the season. We lost 11-0 last
time so fingers crossed for this game.

Guy Fawkes Event
The
combined group made up of Norsewood Playgroup, Fire Brigade, Lions and
Promotions are planning the annual Guy Fawkes event to be held at Mathews Park on
Friday 5th November. We are
asking for wood to make the Bonfire.
There are some restrictions the wood must be clean i.e. no nails, bolts,
hinges etc and of course no rubbish.
There will be an area marked out for anyone to drop off wood straight to
the park in the next week or so. If you
are unsure what you may have is suitable, could you please contact Wayne
Montgomery.
