Nga mihi ki nga whanau, Greetings to our families Nau mai haere mai ki tenei wahanga tuatoru. Welcome to the third term. In our class we are promoting student agency, ownership, choice and voice pertaining to their learning experiences.
Angela McQuarrie and I will be team teaching. I will teach from Monday to Thursday in our class. Angela will teach on a Friday in Awatea. I am very excited to be in a collaborative teaching partnership with Angela. I teach in Redet on a Friday. Jocelyn and I work collaboratively together to ensure a seamless teaching transition to ensure that it is a beneficial play based learning experience for all our students. I am grateful to Jocelyn’s experience, knowledge and support. Our teaching compliments our diverse teaching experience. I have taught from early childhood to Year 13.
This term we will discover how we can be empowered as learners in Awatea. This is our school value we will be focusing on as learners and explorers on our educational journey. As a school we will also be focusing on collaboration as an important learning and life skill.
Upcoming activities and events Week 1 Friday 24th July Tararua Library Chill out and read programme Our class will be reading these books in class. Our class are engaged and empowered readers. We read for enjoyment and learning. Week 1 Friday 24th July Reading at Country kids Every Friday four students from our class will reading stories to the children at country kids. This is our class contributing to their community of younger learners and making connections. Week 2 Smart Goals We will be using curriculum L3 and L4 documents/ student’s data to create realistic and achievable learning goals for term 3. Student’s will reflect on their progress in week 10. This will empower students to construct their own learning plan, monitor, adjust, adapt and reflect. Week 2 Pepeha All students will write their own pepeha, learn and share with their families. This is a school wide activity.
Week 2 Thursday 30th July Tree planting Our class will focus on the environmental and cultural significance to this whenua(land).
Week 3 Wednesday 5th August Tararua Seven’s We will be focusing on Health and physical education. This event allows us to participate in a Tararua Primary school’s community sporting event. We will require parental support and transport for this sporting event. Week 3-10 Thursday 6th August Ki O Rahi Rangitane have kindly offered to come and teach and reinforce skills to actively participate in playing Ki O Rahi. Every Thursday during weeks 3-10 from 12pm-1pm. Please come and join us if you would like to learn how to play.
Weeks 8-10 Friday 18th of September Settlers day This is a vitally important authentic rich learning opportunity for our students to connect with Maori, English, Scandinavian, German and various other nationalities who migrated to this area. We will take this time to investigate and learn about their personal migration/culture/history/technology/economy/ art/stories/treasures/ families and communities past and present. We look forward to an amazingly fun filled term with unlimited learning experiences with our class Awatea. We are all exceptional, energetic and empowered learners in an engaged environment that promotes finding joy in everything that you do. Even if it is tricky, difficult and challenging. Sometimes you have to illuminate what you did because it is still progress. One step at a time, forward or backward. Remember, you are still moving and making progress more importantly it is okay.
