TERM THREE 2017

Week 4 Term 3

Picture
Speeches Speeches Speeches
Wow Room Three has worked hard on their speeches. This has been our main focus over the last week and students are now getting used orally presenting their speech. It has been an interesting process with lots of lessons along the way especially around researching and understanding their topic. Everyday we spend 5 minutes on Smart Moves. There are several activities which get the students moving and helps with coordination. We have been focussing on fractions during our maths time. Using blocks helps the students visualise the fractions and understand them.

As the Cultural Festival is coming up fast, Room 3 has been practising our Kapa Haka songs in class.
Campbell and Taranaki cooked the most amazing chocolate cake after reading a book about making one.  The whole class enjoyed the cake.
The Winter Warmer programme is well on its way with most students already finished at least 5 book reviews.

Weeks 1/2 Term 3

Room Three News Room 3 have been busy researching their speech topics. We have covered the introduction and body of the speech. Learning how to research both in books and on computer has been our objective. Algebra has been our learning focus for maths. We have been learning how to carry on patterns with shapes and numbers. Having finished reading Charlotte’s Web, we watched the movie today to compare the differences.

Term Two 2017

Week 9/10 Class Blog

We have been learning about Matariki and how we celebrate this. Last Friday Room 3 did soap carvings, made lanterns and had a lunchtime celebration with shared food.  Happy Matariki everyone, this is a time to spend with family, reflect on what we could do differently and learn new skills.

We have had fun this week finishing our Firewise unit.  Our posters all give the message to get out and stay out and on Thursday we had a sit from the Norsewood Fire Brigade.  Mrs Montgomery and Mrs Domper showed us the results of a fire and how fast fire spreads. We also saw pictures of 'Dennis the Menace' the Norsewood Fire Truck.  Mrs McQuarrie has put new lessons for us on both Maths Buddy and Reading Eggs so we have been working hard on these.  Room 2 and 3 are working on Kapahaka songs together which sound really cool. Some of our class have made it into a Jump Jam team and others have made it into the Interschool Cross Country and we celebrated their achievement.  It has been an exciting week for us all.

Week 5 Term 2 Class Blog

We said goodbye Mrs Moss on Monday as she left our school.  Even though we never made it into her class she was a caring cool teacher that we will remember especially after just going on camp with her.  On Tuesday we started learning about Multiplication and we are getting better and better at it.  Room Four joined us for Peer Writing on Wednesday before we went and ran the Cross Country.  We all did really well and the day was awesome although the hill at the end was hard to run up.  We spent time this week learning about how a fire keeps going, how they start, safety around fire and how to get out and on Friday we made Firewise posters. Our week went fast and we were all looking forward to a sleep in on the long weekend.

Class Blog Week 4 Term 2

Wow already it is Week 4 and we have been so busy we have not posted any blogs for a couple of weeks.   This week has been extra exciting because we have been on camp with Room 4.  We went to Camp Rangiwoods which is in the Pohangina Valley.  It felt like the middle of nowhere because we drove for ages in the dark out into the country.  On Monday we had a fantastic day in Palmerston North.  To start with we went to the Rugby Museum which proved very interesting for everyone even if they didn't like rugby.  Next we had lunch and then a lovely long swim at the Lido Aquatic Centre before heading to Te Manawa. At Te Manawa there was a display about the Manawatu River and how the Gorge was formed, We all learned something from this. To round off the day we had a game of 10 pin bowling but we think the main competition was between Mrs Moss and Mrs McQuarrie with all the noise from their end.  Mrs Moss won by 1 point and made sure Mrs McQuarrie remembered this for the whole camp! We had a lovely tea before doing a quiz about famous people which provided some entertainment. On Tuesday we had a fun day around camp with both outdoor activities and indoor technology challenges.Competition was quite tense when it came to making and racing our stretchers.  When the sun started to go down we walked to the glow worms.  They were amazing, it was like walking into a cave surrounded by lights.  The glow worms were a highlight for all of us. We finished Tuesday by doing skits in our cabin groups which made us all laugh.  Wednesday came soon enough and we had one last technology challenge left which was to make a light tower.  This proved quite challenging but was heaps of fun as well.  Then we packed up, tidied camp and came back to school.  On Thursday we finished our camp books, talked about the highs and lows of camp and looked at all of the photos.  It was a great week although we were all a bit tired by Friday.

Class Blog Week 1 Term 2

Week one has gone really fast and our exciting news for this week was that we are going on camp with Room 4.  We are staying away for two nights in cabins.  This week we started a new reading programme called the Daily Five where we get to choose what activity we do, but we have rules around how to do each activity and only 4 of us are allowed to do one activity at a time.  One reading group found an article in a journal that they were interested in about a boy learning to play the bagpipes, so Mrs McQuarrie brought us in some bagpipes to try.  Drew, Sam and Rory managed to get some squeaks out of them. Most of us got very red in the face because we had to blow up the bag and then squeeze it quite hard.  They were really hard to play and it made some of us dizzy.  Today was mufti day and we all go to to wear whatever we wanted to and bring a gold coin for the rescue helicopter, but we still had to do schoolwork.

Week 9 Class Blog

Wow the week just wizzed by.  Room Three  has been a hive of activity all week with students finishing their reports and writing a rhyming bee poem.  The students have decided how to present their report and some interesting creations are now taking place in class.  This has also bought about a lot of problem solving and discussion as they try to get their project looking how they imagined it would.  Maths has been all about counting in 10's for both addition and subtraction so any counting forwards and backwards in 10's at home would be great. One group has been learning how to add 10's and 1's and revisiting their Place Value knowledge. Charlie has been watching us work all week as his camera was broken, but thanks to a kind donation he is now back out and about having fun.  As we near the end of term the children are still buzzing about bees and enthusiastic to do their best.

Week 8 Class Blog

Hunting and Fishing kept a lot of us busy over the weekend and we talked about what we caught for the rest of week.  On Monday we had Activities Day at school. We made bivvies, damper, did an agri kids course and played Fill your Bucket.  These activities were done in house groups and we had to work as a team.  Tuesday was the Weetbix Triathlon day and half of Room Three were doing it so the rest of us went to Room 5 for the day.  Constable Max visited us in Room 5 and we went for a walk to practice road safety and in the afternoon learnt about bus safety.  We have been really busy the last few weeks learning about bees and we have all written a bee report.  Now we get to choose how we want to present our report so there is a lot of creativity going on.

Charlie spent Week 7 with Andy and her family.
He had a great time meeting her friends, having a fish and chips tea and driving around in her car.

Unfortunately Charlies' camera has been playing up for a while and has finally died.  Charlie is sadly sitting in class watching us all work.  If anyone has an old camera that still works to donate, I'm sure Room Three would love the chance to get Charlie out on the road again

Week 7 Class Blog

We had a Bee week this week and  were so excited about our visit to Kintail Honey in Takapau.  We have been learning heaps about bees and this helped us understand how the honey gets from the bee to the supermarket shelves and how bees get all the way to Canada.  To finish the day we watched the Bee movie.  The next day we wrote a recount about our trip to Kintail as well as working on our bee reports.  We know lots more about bees now.  A couple of Room 3 students went to the Country School Swimming Sports and did really well.  Room Two hosted a great Merit Assembly on Thursday to help make our week AWESOME!

Week 6 Class Blog- Term 1 2017

Room Three had a great time with Amy from Zero Waste this week.  She taught us about recycling and reusing.  On Thursday we made some awesome rubbish desk organisers with the Year 3's from Room 2.  We continue to learn lots of things about bees.  Did you know that only girl bees sting?  We finally finished making 1000, that was a big job!   On Mondays and Fridays we have news about our week so we can share the highlights from our week. This week we have had some very complicated tests, our brains were sore afterwards. It has been a challenging but fun week.

Wow 1000 is a big number and some students from Room 3 set out to find 1000 objects. During this activity the students had to figure out for themselves the easiest way to count to 1000.  This drew on their knowledge of 10's and 100's.  It was certainly a practical exercise with a lot of discussion that helped everyone in Room Three see how big 1000 is.

Week 5 Class Blog- Term 1 2017

We sure have had a busy week this week.  We have been learning lots about bees and just for a start did you know that bees sweat wax? YUK! our candles are made of bee sweat.  One maths group has been learning about how big 1000 is and as a class we are rocking our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. When the pool is warm enough we swim everyday.  We have started Peer Reading after lunch and we go to the library every Friday to change our books.  At the end of the day we all have job to do as it is our responsibility to clean up our class.  Yep we sure have been busy.

Week 4 Class Blog- Term 1 2017

We have been super busy this week.  Our maths has been around adding and subtracting. Maths Buddy on the computer is fun and we can do this at home too. It's a great feeling to gain points on the Class Dojo and to have our parents know what we gained points for.  Some of us started linking with our handwriting so we have to keep it really tidy all the time.  We are using descriptive words in our writing and wrote some poems about Summer.
By Maddison and Aron
Wow what an incredibly busy 3 weeks we have had.  We are swimming when the weather and pool temperature allows.
We love the big smiles and cheery "good morning" calls that come through the class door, it sets everything up for a great day.  As the students wrote the class Treaty they know the expectations for routines and behaviour in Room 3 and they are settled and working hard.

Week 3 Class Blog- Term 1 2017

In Week 3 we presented our Merit Assembly.  We showed what we had been busy with over the first three weeks of the year.  Our portraits were very colourful and had a lot of detail in them.  Attached to our portraits was writing about ourselves and our Mihi.  Learning our Mihi in Maori was a challenge that we all enjoyed.  In maths we have been learning about Statistics and we showed graphs that had our data on them.  We had a great week with each other.

Staying positive and helping others were part of our inquiry this week.  We had lots of discussions on how to be a good friend, play nicely and class expectations.  We had some fun painting our self portraits and describing ourselves.  Making goal setting balloons helped us think about what we wanted to achieve this year and how we will go about this.

A reading book will be sent home every night. This may be the same book for more than one night and should not be hard reading.  Spelling and Basic Facts are also sent home every week and checked on a Friday.  Please make sure that homework books are at school everyday so spelling words can be used in activities.  Maths Buddy and Reading Eggs are available to every child in Room Three.  Both these sites can be accessed at home and are a great way to encourage the students.

Room 3

Welcome back to school and I trust everyone enjoyed the long break. Hopefully we will start to have some beautiful summer weather so we will be swimming every day.  Please make sure togs and a towel are brought to school daily. A note is required for any non-swimmers.  A change of clothes are also required for field play at lunchtimes all year round.
Please remember to pack some ‘Brain Food” for your child/ren -  a piece of fruit or a vegetable, such as a small piece of apple or carrot will be sufficient. We have this small break at 11.30.

We will be starting this term looking at building positive relationships within Room 3 and around the school. This will tie in with other areas we are studying this term.
